Amata City Ha Long attended online meetings at the People’s Committee Office on September 25 and 26, chaired by Vietnam Prime Minister H.E Pham Minh Chinh. The meeting with businesses, as well as provincial and city officials, sought solutions for overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and the many difficulties it has caused.
After thanking all parties for their support in the fight against COVID-19, the Prime Minister noted that the country relies heavily on imported medical equipment and supplies, including vaccines and medicines. He also stated that the pandemic should be treated with more flexibility and control, rather than aiming for zero cases, in order to protect the economy. Cities and provinces were asked to establish working teams to help with preventative measurements and control.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the national government is developing an application to collect data related to COVID-19 testing and vaccination.
Vietnam recently released GDP statistics for 2021. It reported that Q3 GDP contracted by 6.17 percent compared to a year before, the first time since 1986 that the country’s economy has shrunk. This reduced projected 2021 GDP growth to 1.42 percent. The service sector contracted by 9.28 percent, while industrial and manufacturing sectors were down 5.02 percent.
